New AEIRS developments:

Website

The AEIRS website had undergone major changes in look and function. We hope you are enjoying the new website. One of the areas of interest to you will be the Member's area. This area offers several great features for members. In this area you can cast your vote for board elections, review current and past issues of the Radiologic Science and Education journal and newsletter, discuss issues with fellow members on the AEIRS forum, find past presentations (power points) from the annual meeting and CI workshops, look up colleagues in the membership directory, and renew your membership on-line. Also in the Member's area (member profile) you can enter current information about you. This helps us stay up to date with your contact information.

Another area of interest available to members and non-members is the Resources link area. Under this area you will find the Job Board (for faculty and staff), a Curriculum link, and area Of Interest. Under the Of Interest area you will find links to Imaging and Radiological Science Organizations, Accrediting/Credentialing organizations, International links, helpful web links, and programs offering baccalaureate, Masters, and Doctoral degrees. Soon under the resources link AEIRS will offer on online store to purchase AEIRS merchandise.

New Scholarship

Be on the lookout for information about AEIRS new scholarship named "Invest in the Future Scholarship." The focus of this scholarship is to help attract new educators into the field. It is predicted there will be an educator shortage in a few years. In 2004 the ASRT surveyed educators in the radiological sciences and reported that within 10 years half of the current program directors were planning to leave the profession. This survey also stated that the mean age of educators fell in the mid to late 40's (Program directors 49.4 and faculty 44.3). This survey is four years old and the mean age has now moved into the early 50's for educators.
